Progress Continues on the Montville Township Purple Heart Monument Memorial Site, Eagle Project
The Purple Heart Monument is
dedicated to all men and women wounded in all our wars. A Boy Scout from Troop 74, Justin
Pagano, is erecting this monument site as an Eagle Scout Project.
An Eagle Project must demonstrate
leadership of others and provide service to the community.
This memorial site will demonstrate
Montville Township’s appreciation to all those who shed blood on our
behalf. Without the sacrifices of
our military Montville Township would not be the peaceful and prosperous
community that it is.
This project would not be possible without the remarkably generous support of Chux Landscaping and Springbrook Farms.
Charles Baldissard & Tom Fitzsimmons, the owners of Chux Landscaping, and Shawn Heslin have been instrumental in the development and execution of this project.
The owners of Chux Landscaping said that they wanted to insure that the memorial site was done right and captured the significance of what the monument represents.
Chux donated the design by Shawn Heslin and they will be installing the hardscape as well as supervising the Boy Scouts with the landscaping and preparation of the site.
A 24” x 36” color landscape design print is on display at the Montville Municipal Building, Library and High School.
Springbrook Farms has donated the topsoil, mulch, perennials, ornamental grasses, and ground cover.
Princeton Nurseries of Allentown, NJ will be donating four Forest Pansy Redbud trees.
The Forest Pansy Redbud trees bloom with a reddish purple flower.
Once the early flowers fade, reddish purple heart shaped leaves will emerge. The purple heart shaped leaves will bring the theme of the memorial site directly into the landscape.
Structural Stone & Brick Co., Inc. of Fairfield, NJ wanted to “Honor our Troops with the most beautiful products available,” therefore they will be donating the paving stones and retaining wall materials.
Salomone Brothers Inc. and Herbert Hinchman & Son of Wayne, NJ have graciously
agreed to contribute to the project. Hinchman will be supplying the concrete and Salomone Brothers will be
installing the sidewalks. Bryan Burns, a Towaco resident and the owner of Bryan P. Burns Company Inc. a
professional monument installer has kindly agreed to donate the setting of the
monument.
The site design also includes two benches. The benches are being constructed by the
Montville High School Woodshop under the guidance of Mr. Levchik. The lumber for the benches was donated
by Monteath Lumber of Old Bridge, NJ.
Justin has successfully raised the $8,000.00 needed to purchase the Purple Heart
Monument and the additional funds necessary to construct the memorial
site. This project would not be possible without the generous support and enthusiasm of the residents of
Montville Township. The monument is scheduled to be dedicated at 12:00PM on Sunday, April 22, 2007.
